Lily Dale

The summer season at Lily Dale offers you a new variety of separate workshops and seminars, as well as a host of other special events.
Lily Dale is in Chautauqua County, in the Jamestown-Dunkirk-Fredonia metro area. Lily Dale is on Cassadaga Lake. Home of a spiritualist community, Lily Dale Assembly, which was founded in 1879.
Lily Dale is the largest spiritualist community in the world. Spirtualism is a religion in which people believe they can communicate with spririts. Lily Dale is full of "mediums", although some call themselves "psychics". You can receive a reading almost any time of the week. Lily Dale opens their gates to the public during the summertime months.
All presented in the tranquil environment of our cozy, lakeside, 19th century atmosphere. Lily Dale has been bringing summer programs to the public since 1879 and are still going strong. Lily Dale is a community dedicated to the religion of Spiritualism.

The Definition of A Spiritualist
One who believes, as the basis of his or her religion, in the continuity of life and in individual responsibility. Some, but not all, Spiritualists are Mediums and/or Healers. Spiritualists endeavor to find the truth in all things and to live their lives in accordance therewith.

Leolyn Woods

Your self guided tour runs from Mother's Rest to the Stump. Lily Dale is proud of its ancient forest and its great spiritual and inspirational quality. As you enjoy your time in our grove "take nothing but pictures" and "leave nothing but footprints" so that future generations may enjoy the same pristine beauty you enjoy today. Ancient forests are a delicate and sacred place. Please stay on the path. Do not wander off the trail since this tramples delicate and rare plants. Do not pick any flowers!
Leolyn Woods is one of the most significant and unique old growth forests in the Northeast. Since the establishment of Lily Dale in the 1890s psychics have been holding sacred services deep in the grove at the site affectionately known as "The Stump" (named after a sacred pine that once grew here)
Leolyn Woods is also home to the oldest known public pet cemetery in the United States. In an effort to prevent future encroachment into the woods and to preserve the history of the pet' cemetery no new interments are being allowed, Volunteers come lovingly every Spring to restore the cemetery as much as possible without harming the natural environment.
Leolyn Woods is thousands of years old, populated by centuries old trees, most common are ancient Hemlock, Basswood, Maples, Red Oaks, White Pine, Black Cherry, and Cucumber Magnolia.

"Walking into an ancient forest, a man becomes displaced in time. In this sequestered primeval forest, a humble poem of tribute to God rises from the deep of man's soul"
                                                                                                           Harriet Beecher Stowe

Lily Dale Museum

The Lily Dale Museum and Historical Society was founded in 1986. The museum is one of the newest additions to our continuing work of honoring our founders and preserving the many items that record the history and heritage of this community and Spiritualism.
The protection and preservation of the many items of interest that are available for display has, in the past, been a part of the Marion Skidmore Library.
The new home of the museum is located at the corner of Library and East Streets just across from the Healing Temple.

Marion Skidmore Library

The Library is one of the many points of interest in Lily Dale. Located on Cottage Row, facing the Auditorium and Melrose Park, it contains the largest and most outstanding collection of rare Spiritualist and metaphysical books in existence.
It is necessary, because of the rarity of the material, to allow no books to be removed from the premises; however, there is a reading room set aside for research and study.
A 20-minute video presentation highlighting the history and philosophy of Lily Dale is shown daily at 11:30 am in the Library

There are also meetings at the “stump”, an actual large tree stump in the middle of a slightly wooded area, that are quite popular. If you are a true spiritualist yourself you may find these stump events to be slightly exploitive of the psychic gifts as they are, but if you are skeptical about the psychic world this is your chance to see if these people are for real or not. It is also a way, I imagine, for the individual specialists to sell themselves for a few minutes. They single people out and give them some answers that they were supposedly looking for. It is tempting to question the validity of this and the desire to follow the people who were singled out of the audience to their car to see if they drove through some back alley where they collected the cash from the “psychic” who used them as a ploy. But no, these people, no doubt, are just common tourists like everyone else there with fanny packs and bottled water, and you will see them equally as amazed as you will be as they are walking around the cute little town.

Lily Dale is a fantastic place to visit if you are curious about the psychic world, skeptical of it, or even better yet if you have a question or issue in your life right now that you are desperately looking to solve. It is not guaranteed that you will find your answer at Lily Dale, but you’ll definitely without a doubt find lots of fun and a group of truly caring, good people to make for fun, a place that you and your family or friends will never forget.
