WHAT IS REIKI? |
It is a powerful, precise system of healing which is believed to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago. It accesses a universal life force energy. This energy also known as prana, mana, chi, holy spirit, and source, helps promote healing in all living things on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. The Reiki Master and Reiki Practitioner are channels for this healing energy.
REIKI DEFINED
The word Rei as it is used
in Reiki is interpreted to mean
knowledge
of spiritual consciousness which is all knowing.
Ki is the life force. It is also called the vital life force or
the universal life force. This is the non-physical energy that animates,
circulates and surrounds all living things. If there is a restriction in
the flow of one's Ki a vulnerability to illness occurs. When it is high
and flowing freely better physical and mental health is experienced. Life
force plays an important role in everything we do. It animates the body
and is the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life.
Reiki has been misspelled at first, by people spelling it like it sounds.
Some of the most common misspellings are Reike, Reikie, reki, rieki,
rayke, and raykey to name just a few. But the correct spelling is Reiki.
Reiki is considered alternative healing, holistic therapy, natural healing, and natural touch and is used in holistic health and alternative medicine.
HOW DOES REIKI HEAL?
Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras, meridians and nadirs. We are alive because of this. It flows around us in a field of energy called the "Aura", nourishing the organs and cells of the body as it supports them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in the organs and tissues of the physical body. The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings and becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to our energy field. Thus, causing a disruption in the flow of our life force and diminishing the function of our body's organs and cells. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging there with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body causing the negative energy to break apart and fall away, This is where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and helps to heal the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
HOW CAN REIKI BE USED??
I am going to make this
simple. Reiki can be used for everything and anything that needs healing.
That can be physical, mental, spiritual or emotional; past, present and
the future. You can and should use your intuition for using Reiki.
Reiki is both powerful and gentle. In its long history of use it has aided
in healing virtually every known illness and injury including serious
problems like: flu, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, cancer as well as,
skin problems, cuts, bruises, broken bones, headache, colds, sore throat,
sunburn, fatigue, insomnia, impotence, poor memory, and lack of
confidence, Reiki is beneficial and help works to improve the
effectiveness of all other types of therapy. A treatment feels like a
wonderful glowing radiance and has many benefits including altered states
of consciousness and spiritual experiences. Reiki will help improve the
results of all medical treatment, acting to reduce negative side effects,
shorten healing time, reduce or help eliminate pain and stress. It is a
powerful precise system of self-healing.
IS REIKI A RELIGION?
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion or cult. It has no dogma and there is nothing you must believe to learn to use Reiki. Reiki works with all religions and beliefs.
WHO CAN BE A REIKI HEALER?
Anybody can become a Reiki Healer if they receive an attunement. You do not have to have a certain belief system, be spiritual or have a religion. Nor do you need to engage in elaborate studies of Reiki for it to work. But, you will find yourself seeking more information on Reiki and sharing experiences and techniques with other healers after becoming one yourself. You will find your life altered for the best, and usually will develop a higher level of consciousness and spirituality.
Aromatherapy Blended With Reiki
Aromatherapy employs essential oils extracted from plants. The oils can be used in three ways: by direct application, bathing in water to which a few drops of the appropriate oil have been added, and inhalation.
When used in conjunction with reiki, some oils can be applied directly on particular areas of the body, or their aroma can be made to fill the room using an aroma lamp. Below a few oils are considered and their use compared to their therapeutic value in aromatherapy.
Lavender:
In aromatherapy lavender is a tonic with
relaxing effects. It is also an antiseptic, an antispasmodic and stimulates the
appetite. It is also used for minor burns and wounds. Its soothing effects
render it helpful for headaches, tension and similar conditions.
Sandalwood:
In aromatherapy, sandalwood oil is prized for its relaxing and antiseptic
effects. It forms a very effective oil for application to the skin (especially
facial), particularly for dry or sensitive skin.
Sandalwood oil produces an ambience conducive to the reiki therapy because the
oil is considered to elicit trust and confidence, between practitioner and
recipient.
Clary sage:
Clary sage is a tonic, antispasmodic,
antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal and more. It is also
used to treat colds, menstrual problems and its very low toxicity
renders it suitable for general use.
In a session of reiki therapy, Clary sage is used to open blocked
channels and to enhance sensitivity.
Patchouli:
Patchouli has some aphrodisiac qualities, and
is also used to treat skin disorders and minor bums because of its
anti-inflammatory and antiseptic qualities. It is also used in reiki therapy for
allergies and impurities of the skin; but the fundamental use and aim is to
enhance the sensual qualities and aspects of life.
Reiki and Bach Remedies
These are named after Edward Bach who studied plants with healing qualities. He identified 38 plants, the flowers of which he floated on clear spring water. This, he believed, transferred medicinal properties to the water which could be given to patients. His practice mimicked the drops of dew found on the plant which was used in the beginning. Stock solutions are diluted in water and a few drops taken.
Typical examples are:
cherry plum for fear, tension, irrationality
holly for envy, jealousy and hatred
pine for guilt and constantly apologizing
sweet chestnut for despair
wild rose for apathy
As in the case of other alternative therapies, reiki improves the effectiveness of Bach remedies.
